Message to Principals, Supervisors, and Pedagogical Coordinators

We are pleased to present the Conlang at School project, an initiative designed to integrate playfulness, scientific inquiry, and creativity while fostering the development of students’ linguistic and cognitive competencies, fully aligned with the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC). The project seeks to transform the classroom into a dynamic environment for investigation and innovation.

Our purpose is to serve as a strategic partner in the mission of delivering high-quality education. To this end, we provide a practical, accessible, and easily implementable methodology that enriches the school curriculum with meaningful and transformative experiences.

Structure of the Project

The project is materialized through the Invented Language Workshop (ILW), in which students from the 6th and 7th grades are invited to create their own artificial languages. Far beyond a creative exercise, the workshop constitutes a genuine scientific exploration of the functioning of languages.

Benefits to the School

  • Development of cognitive skills: the ILW promotes logical reasoning, problem-solving, critical analysis, and creativity—skills that are indispensable in the 21st century and broadly applicable across all areas of knowledge.
  • Improvement in Portuguese Language learning: by reflecting on sounds, words, and linguistic structures, students acquire a deeper understanding of their own language, thereby strengthening their reading, interpretation, and writing abilities.
  • Increased student engagement: the practical and creative methodology stimulates enthusiasm and motivation, effectively counteracting the disengagement that may arise during this stage of Middle School.
  • Support for teachers: all instructional materials—including lesson plans, activities, and guidelines—are provided free of charge, ensuring prompt implementation without imposing an additional burden on teaching staff.

Implementation Possibilities

Recognizing the diversity of school contexts, the ILW has been designed with versatility in mind. It may be:

  • implemented as an interdisciplinary project;
  • offered as an extracurricular workshop;
  • or incorporated into Portuguese and Foreign Language classes as a complementary activity.

Rather than replacing the curriculum, the workshop enhances and broadens it, establishing closer ties between schools and academic research while providing students with a distinctive educational experience.

Reasons for Adoption

By adopting the Conlang at School project, institutions place themselves at the forefront of innovative and scientifically grounded pedagogical practices. This initiative is capable of transforming learning into a creative, engaging, and memorable process.

We remain at your disposal to present the project in greater detail and to establish a collaborative partnership that will generate positive and lasting impact for teachers, students, and the entire school community.
